Our kids deserve to grow up together In Real Life instead of on screens.
It only takes 25-30% of a community to shift a cultural norm. This pledge is intended to do just that by demonstrating that families across our town are creating a new “everyone else is doing it” narrative.
One way to make it easier to hold out is by choosing a kid-safe phone which avoids the danger and distractions of smartphones. You can absolutely give your child a basic phone and still honor the spirit of this pledge.

I pledge to delay giving my child an unrestricted smartphone until at least the end of 8th grade. Specifically, that means no smartphone with social media apps or internet browser. Kid-safe devices are fine! (Note: No personal data is shared publicly on the site. Rather, you will receive an email at the beginning of the school year listing other children in your child’s grade. )
